  • Does Windows 7 have a Stereo Mixer control like in XP? I do not see it and can't find it. My Music software for recording live streaming music only records at extreme low level, beyond control of the software recorder and I can find no way to adjust the PC system sound level. The mic and Line In level control are available and OK.
  • The old Volume Control from Windows XP was replaced in Windows Vista, 7 and 8 by the Volume Mixer. The new application brings to Windows much more flexibility regarding the sound management of the different applications you have installed on your PC.
  • Windows 10's April 2018 update has added some additional controls for its sound mixer that allow you to not only adjust volume levels for each open application, but also change input and output.

Jun 21, 2015  Expand Sound Video and Game Controllers. Right click on the sound device and click on Properties. Click on driver tab. Click on Rollback driver. Check if issue persists. Method 3: Reinstall Audio drivers. Follow the steps provided below to uninstall the Audio drivers. Press Windows Key + R, type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter. This software works OK as it should on windows XP as all the individual devices shown in the mixer can be adjusted independently but on W7 8 it looks like all mixer devices are connected to the default speakers (I am assuming this is what is now called the master volume).

Mixer

Windows OS has a new Volume Mixer feature & Volume Control options. The key improvements to this feature are better graphics displays & the ability to control the sound levels of all the applications which call for audio support from Windows 10/8/7.

Sound & Volume Mixer and Control in Windows

In Windows 7 and Windows 8, this new mixer effectively lets you control the volume for each application separately. To access it, click on the speaker icon situated on the right side of the taskbar.

Next click on Mixer to open the Volume Control window.

Here you can control the volume for you running applications which are currently calling for Windows Audio support.

For instance, if you are listening to a YouTube video on in your Internet Explorer, you might want to soften the system sounds down a bit.

You can also control the overall level of sound on your PC. Move the sliders up or down to raise or lower the volume of your speakers, Windows sounds, or other sound devices or programs listed in the Volume Mixer. To mute the volume, click the Mute button.

Right-clicking, the speaker icon will give you more Volume Control options.

In Windows 10, if you click on the speaker icon, the volume controllslider opens.

You have to right-click on the speaker icon to see the following menu:
